Situational Awareness Training
Situational awareness training built on your own sites: scanning the environment, noticing what changed and acting on weak signals before they become incidents.
Did you know?
Attention filters out what it expects to see, especially under routine and pressure. Situational awareness training rebuilds the habit of really looking.
Situational awareness is the habit of knowing what's happening around you: scanning the environment, noticing change and acting on weak signals. It erodes from predictable directions:
- Routine, which teaches the eye what to ignore
- Time pressure, which narrows attention to the task
- Distraction and interruption
- Fatigue at the end of shifts and rotations
- Change blindness when sites evolve gradually
Attention filters out what it expects to see. In a familiar environment that means hazards can sit in plain view without being noticed, especially under time pressure or at the end of a long shift.
Situational awareness training interrupts that drift. People discover their own blind spots in realistic scenes, learn scanning routines that hold up under pressure, and build crew habits for the moments where awareness drops: handovers, task changes and shift ends. It pairs naturally with hazard recognition training: one covers seeing, the other covers interpreting what's seen.

SHIIFT has no favorite format, and that's the point: we produce all of them, so awareness training reaches everyone in the form that works. Scenes are seeded with the hazards your incident history says people stop seeing.
- Training videos: “I didn't see it” incidents retold with what was actually in plain view, which makes the blind spot personal
- Animation: attention traps replayed visibly: routine, distraction, change blindness and the fatigue curve
- E-learning: scanning habits and weak-signal fundamentals for the whole workforce, recorded per person
- Interactive scenarios: spot-what-changed scenes with difficulty that rises as the eye improves, scored individually
- VR: immersive scanning sessions for inductions and safety days, where presence heightens the exercise
- Posters: awareness prompts kept visible around the site, matched to the program's themes
- PowerPoint materials: crew briefing decks that carry awareness topics into toolbox talks
Individual scanning comes first, then crew habits, and results can report through optional SCORM integration.
Programs train individuals first, then crews: shared scanning routines, speaking up about weak signals and the handover moments where awareness most often drops.
Where you take the optional SCORM integration, results report per learner to your LMS, showing what people caught as well as what they completed.

Common questions
What is situational awareness training?
+
We train people to scan their environment, notice change and act on weak signals, through realistic scenes built from their own sites and hazards.
How is it different from hazard recognition training?
+
Hazard recognition trains what to look for; situational awareness trains the habit of looking, especially when routine and pressure dull attention. We build the two to reinforce each other.
Which formats does situational awareness training use?
+
We build situational awareness training in every format we produce: films, animation, e-learning, interactive scenarios, VR, posters and briefing decks. We recommend the blend per project, built around your workforce, your sites, your hazards and your budget.
Can scenarios use our own incident history?
+
We seed scenes with the hazards and near misses from your own records, so people train their eyes on the risks your sites actually produce.
Can training assets be reused for future courses?
+
Where a program builds 3D assets, we reuse the site models behind your awareness scenes across inductions, hazard hunts and refresher content, which lowers the cost of each course that follows.
How is situational awareness evidenced?
+
We report what each learner caught, missed and acted on into your LMS through the optional SCORM add-on, which says far more than a completion tick.
