Line of Fire Training
Line of fire training that teaches workers to see the path of stored energy, moving loads and rotating equipment before they step into it.
Did you know?
Line of fire injuries happen to people who never saw the hazard as a path: the load that could swing, the line that could whip, the vehicle that could roll.
Line of fire means being in the path energy would take if something released, moved or failed. Training covers the main energy sources:
- Vehicles and mobile plant sharing space with people
- Suspended and moving loads
- Stored energy releasing: springs, pressure, tension
- Pinch points and rotating equipment
- Dropped objects from work above
The hazard is a path rather than an object, which makes it hard to see: the danger zone around a suspended load or a line under tension looks like empty space. Struck-by, caught-between and crush injuries remain among the most serious in industry.
Line of fire training teaches workers to identify the path before entering it: where the energy would go, what the escape route is, and whether the task requires standing there at all. Safe positioning becomes a habit checked before every task.

What makes SHIIFT different is format agnosticism: we build in every medium, so line of fire training reaches every crew in the form that lands. Scenarios are seeded from your incident and near-miss history.
- Training videos: caught-between and struck-by incidents retold by the people who survived them, or nearly didn't
- Animation: energy paths drawn in motion: suspended loads, reversing vehicles, stored energy waiting for a reason
- E-learning: positioning fundamentals and exclusion rules for the whole workforce, recorded per person
- Interactive scenarios: spotting the path and choosing position in realistic scenes, scored so habits can be verified
- VR: the near-miss moment experienced safely, where that intensity earns its place
- Posters: keep-clear zones and path reminders exactly where vehicles and loads move
- PowerPoint materials: toolbox decks on the week's line-of-fire risks, ready for supervisors
We'll recommend the mix that fits your crews and your sites.
Modules cover the three families of line of fire risk: struck-by, caught-between and released energy, each trained through situations from your incident history.
Assessment scenarios score whether learners spot the exposure and choose the right position, barrier or stop, with results available per learner where you take the LMS option.

Common questions
What is line of fire training?
+
We teach workers to recognize the paths of moving equipment, loads and stored energy, and to position themselves, barriers and others out of those paths.
How do you make line of fire visible?
+
We make the paths visible in whichever format the program uses: drawn in motion through animation, or mapped through recreations of your work areas where a program builds them. Either way the hazard becomes something workers can see and remember.
Which tasks does it apply to?
+
We focus on lifting, vehicle interfaces, pressurized systems, rotating equipment and manual tasks, prioritized from your incident data.
Which formats does line of fire training use?
+
Line of fire training can run in any of our formats: videos, animation, e-learning, interactive scenarios, VR and posters. The mix follows your sites, your vehicles and plant, your incident history and your crews.
Can training assets be reused for future courses?
+
Where a program builds 3D assets, we reuse the work-area models across hazard recognition, lifting and induction training, so each course after the first costs less.
How is line of fire awareness measured?
+
We score exposure spotting and positioning choices per learner and report them to your LMS through the optional SCORM add-on alongside your near-miss trends.
