Al Hosn Gas: HSE Induction for Shah Gas

We produced a live-action HSE induction film for Al Hosn Gas's Shah Gas Development project in Abu Dhabi.

CLIENT

Al Hosn Gas

OBJECTIVE
To produce a high-quality, dynamic, and informative induction training film for Al Hosn Gas (now operating as ADNOC Sour Gas) that would inspire employees and contractors to take genuine ownership of safety, while addressing all critical areas including operations, safe working practices, hazards, and emergency procedures across the Sour Gas Shah development in Abu Dhabi.

APPROACH

Working closely with Al Hosn Gas stakeholders, we developed a scripted, live-action production filmed on-site in Abu Dhabi, combining interview segments, live-action footage, and motion graphics into a single cohesive film.

Key employees were used as on-screen guides to signpost critical learning points throughout, ensuring the audience remained engaged and attentive to the most important safety messages. The production was designed to feel credible, authoritative, and culturally relevant to a diverse, multinational UAE energy workforce.

The Problem

With the development of the Sour Gas Shah project in the UAE, Al Hosn Gas faced the challenge of inducting a large incoming workforce into one of the most technically complex and safety-critical facilities in the UAE oil and gas industry.

The Shah Gas Development, located 210 km southwest of Abu Dhabi, is one of the most ambitious energy projects ever undertaken in the UAE. Processing more than one billion standard cubic feet of ultra-sour gas per day, it’s the world’s largest ultra-sour gas operation and produces approximately 5% of the world’s total granulated sulfur.

The scale and complexity of the facility, combined with the extreme hazards associated with high-concentration hydrogen sulphide, meant that inducting a large incoming workforce to the required standard of safety awareness was a critical operational priority.
Bringing new employees and contractors up to speed quickly, without compromising on safety standards, presented a significant operational challenge. Traditional induction methods, including printed manuals and classroom-led sessions, were failing to engage a multilingual, multinational workforce and were not adequately reinforcing the site-specific hazard awareness required before personnel could operate safely on site.

With rotating shift crews and frequent contractor mobilisations common across UAE energy projects, Al Hosn Gas needed a standardized induction experience that could be delivered consistently and at scale, capable of communicating life-critical safety rules clearly regardless of language or background.

The absence of a high-quality video-based solution would result in gaps in safety knowledge transfer that an operator of this scale and complexity could not afford to carry.

The Solution

We delivered a fully scripted, professionally directed live-action induction film that captured real operational environments, including control rooms, processing units, and emergency muster points, to ground safety messaging in the actual workplace.

The use of key employees as on-screen signposts gave the film authenticity and authority, while the combination of interview, live-action, and graphic sequences ensured all areas of safety were covered in a format that was engaging and memorable. The final film gave Al Hosn Gas a scalable, consistent training asset that standardized the induction experience across all new starters and contractor mobilizations.

As an additional delivery to the live-action HSE induction project, we also produced a series of 3D animated short films targeting the Life Saving Rules. Each animation shared a consistent look and feel while addressing a specific rule in a visually compelling, language-neutral format, designed to resonate with a workforce spanning many nationalities.

The series covered Working at Height, Hot Work, Confined Spaces, Excavations, H2S, and Lifting Operations. The full programme proved highly popular with the workforce and went on to win multiple international awards for HSE communication.

The Shah Gas Development demanded more than standard induction content, and SHIIFT rose to the challenge. Partnering with Al Hosn Gas on one of the most significant energy projects in UAE history, we produced safety training that matched the scale, ambition, and critical importance of the project itself.
