OBJECTIVE
To produce a modular, up-to-date site orientation safety film that clearly communicates GCGV’s SSHE requirements during the commissioning and start-up phase.
APPROACH
We worked closely with the GCGV SSHE team to script, structure, and produce a segmented film using live action, 2D animation, and voiceover – designed for flexibility, clarity, and ease of future updates.

Overview
Gulf Coast Growth Ventures (GCGV) is a joint venture between ExxonMobil and SABIC, developed to operate a world-scale manufacturing site in San Patricio County, Texas. The facility includes an ethane steam cracker and downstream units producing materials used in a range of industrial and consumer applications.
As GCGV progressed from construction into commissioning and start-up, a more adaptable approach to site orientation was required. Conditions on site were changing. New personnel were arriving. Existing induction material no longer suited the pace or complexity of the environment.
We were commissioned by the GCGV SSHE team to produce a new orientation film. The aim was to create a clear, structured and maintainable tool that reflected the current operational context and supported the delivery of accurate safety information.
THE Problem
The site’s transition into start-up created a need for updated safety orientation materials. An induction designed during construction could not support the conditions or communication needs of the commissioning phase.
There was a requirement for an orientation film that:
- Could evolve as the site developed further
- Reflected current SSHE expectations and procedures
- Supported varied audiences with different levels of site access
This prompted the decision to create a new safety film, designed to operate as a practical tool during a live phase of activity.
Our Solution
Film Structure and Format
We worked with the GCGV SSHE team to design and produce a modular site orientation safety film. The structure was built around segmented content that allowed for targeted viewing and simple updates.
The film used:
- Live action footage
- Simple 2D animation
- Clear voiced instructions narrating the safety video
- Chapter-based delivery to support flexibility
This structure supported efficient orientation sessions without requiring a full restart when content needed to be revised.
Key Topics Covered
The safety film addressed a defined set of SSHE priorities. Content included:
- GCGV Life Saving Rules
- Emergency Response procedures, with demonstrations of each siren used
- Evacuation instructions
- Prohibited items and expectations at security entry
- Use of personal safety passports, filled with all crucial safety related information that workers carry at all times
- Hazardous materials awareness
Where procedures couldn’t be filmed directly, 2D animation was used to maintain clarity. On-screen text and voiceover were applied consistently to support accessibility.
Outcome of the Safety orientation film
The GCGV SSHE Site Orientation Safety Film delivered a focused and functional resource for onboarding personnel during the commissioning and start-up phases of the site.
The film allowed:
- Consistent safety messaging across different roles and departments
- A clear overview of expectations for anyone entering the site
- Easy updates to individual segments without full rework
We developed the orientation film to support operational accuracy and practical use. It aligned with current site procedures and helped ensure that each person entering GCGV received the information necessary to work safely and responsibly.
